Introducing new OAA president Marcia Chiasson

We are pleased to announce that Marcia Chiasson, Manager, Ontario Aquaculture Research Centre has taken the role of OAA president, for a one-year term.

Dr. Marcia Chiasson is a biologist whose academic journey has been marked by a commitment to aquatic animal physiology and genetics. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Biology from the University of New Brunswick, she pursued her passion further by earning a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Guelph, where her focus shifted towards genetics and breeding within the aquatic realm. Driven by a desire for practical application, she embarked on a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada, followed by a tenure at the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

In 2018, Dr. Chiasson returned to her academic roots at the University of Guelph, taking the reins as the manager of the Ontario Aquaculture Research Centre. Her dedication extends beyond research and academia by volunteering as a board member for both the Ontario Aquaculture Association and the Aquaculture Association of Canada.
